The Direct Answer

A driveway that looks patchy or faded after a jet wash usually comes down to two things: the kiln-dried sand got washed straight out of the joints and never went back in, or a stubborn stain like black spot or oil got blasted with raw pressure instead of treated properly, which lightens the area around it unevenly rather than removing the mark cleanly. Block paving is built to take a proper wash. What causes the patchy look is skipping the resand, or skipping the treatment step and relying on pressure alone.

What a proper job actually includes

  • Resanding every joint. Kiln-dried sand goes back into every gap once the wash is done. Without it, the blocks work loose and start to shift.
  • Treating stains, not blasting them. Black spot and oil marks respond to a treatment. Pressure alone either doesn't shift them or strips the surrounding area unevenly trying to.
  • One price agreed first. We measure the drive, tell you what will come off and what will only fade, and give one number before anything starts.

Can a patchy drive be fixed?

Usually, yes. If the sand was skipped, resanding it properly sorts the uneven look. If a stain was blasted unevenly, a fresh, correctly done wash and treatment pass generally evens it back out. Full re-laying is rarely needed.

FAQ: Will pressure washing damage my block paving?

Not when it is done right. Drives are built to take a proper wash, unlike a roof. The damage comes from blasting a stain that should have been treated instead.

FAQ: What does it cost?

Priced per job after we measure, with sealing from £1,200. Full detail is on the driveway and patio cleaning page.
